Now time to play a game, it’s called ask yourself some questions, and then come up with your answers. I’ll go first:
- Question 1: Do you have any good friends with ulcerative colitis?
- My Answer: Nope
- Question 2: Did you freak out when they put the IV in your arm before the colonoscopy?
- My Answer: Yep
- Question 3: Did you sometimes have blood drops around the toilet bowl that you wiped up because it would have been BIGTIME embarrasing if others saw that stuff?
- My Answer: Yes sir
- Question 4: Did you ever feel like you were going to crap out your colon, and see it swimming in the toilet bowl?
- My Answer: Yes sir
- Question 5: Did you ever finish going to the bathroom and begin walking to bed, and then actually go right back to the toilet?
- My Answer: Many times
- Question 6: Did you ever just barely make it to the toilet in-time, 1/2 second later would have been an asstastrophe?
- My Answer: Yes
- Question 7: Did you ever have a hard time swallowing a steroid pill, and then have that NASTY taste in your mouth?
- My Answer: nearly daily
- Question 8: Did you ever act sicker than you really were for a hidden reason?
- My Answer: Yes, many times when checking into urgent care.
- Question 9: Did you ever forget what it was like to actually have a normal bowel movement?
- My Answer: Oh Yes
- Question 10: Did you ever think the thought that jumping off a bridge wasn’t such a bad idea?
- My Answer: For a few seconds maybe yeah
- Question 11: Did you ever eat some spicy Indian food and think that was the reason for the blood?
- My Answer: Bigtime
- Question 12: Did you ever sit in bed and feel like a worthless piece of nothing?
- My Answer: Yes, for several months
- Question 13: Did you ever wish this disease on your worst enemy?
- My Answer: Never
- Question 14: Did you feel confused with all of the treatments you had been through?
- My Answer: Very confused
- Question 15: Although things weren’t working medically, did you still like your doctor?
- My Answer: Yes, most definitely, invited him to my wedding celebration
- Question 16: Did you sometimes disagree with your GI doctor?
- My Answer: Yes sir
- Question 17: Did you like the nurses at the doctor’s office
- My Answer: The best
- Question 18: Do you hate the guy who took your blood and left a hematoma?
- My Answer: It’s still there a year later, want to karate chop him in the nose
- Question 19: Was your 4 day visit to the Mayo Clinic helpful?
- My Answer: Skip
- Question 20: Do you look at yourself differently now?
- My Answer: Yes
- Question 21: Do you value your life more than years ago?
- My Answer: Yes
- Queston 22: Do you bleed anymore?
- My Answer: No
- Question 23: Do you go through 1 roll of toilet paper a day still?
- My Answer: No
- Question 24: Do you eat chocolate chip cookies daily still?
- My Answer: NO SIR
- Question 25: Do you drink alcohol still?
- My Answer: Nope
- Question 26: Are you OK with that?
- My Answer: Yes
- Question 27: Do your parents still ask what you can/can’t eat?
- My Answer: Yes, all the time…
- Question 28: Do you take any medications for UC right now?
- My Answer: Nope
- Question 29: Do you like your new diet?
- My Answer: It’s fine, used to it now
- Question 30: Are you ready to bicycle 2000 miles in Croatia again?
- My Answer: Not yet, but soon
- Question 31: How about another bike trip to Argentina?
- My Answer: Take it easy buddy, its going to happen!
- Question 32: Do you still think you can do anything?
- My Answer: Pretty much, minus some food
- Final Question: Is your life over?
- My Answer: Yes, I need to go to bed, I got a big day tomorrow.
I started site shortly after being diagnosed in October of 2008 with severe pancolitis (when my whole colon was inflamed).
For me, it was a very rough start with severe symptoms. Getting bounced from medication to medication was not easy or too helpful. But, I did meet another UC’er, changes several parts of my diet, and of course the rest is history.
