Looking For Info About the SCD Diet

I was diagnosed with UC 3yrs ago, was put on colazol that worked for a while until my denial got the best of me and I stopped taking it. I was working out very hard and eating what I thought was good food. I then had a surgery that had complications and was put on antibiotics, which started my year long battle with the worst flare I had since being diagnosed. I was put on every med out there for ulcerative colitis, ending with remicade that put me back in remission. But the side effects were way to many for me to handle. So I researched the hell out of the disease and found a great naturopathic MD who is now helping me to to do this the cleaner way.

I started the SCD diet about mid June and have been learning so much from all these sites. I have recently started feeling a small flare coming back but have been managing to keep it at small. Im now following the diet hard core and am taking all recommended supplements. Please give me any suggestions to make this even smoother. I have Steve and Jordan’s stuff which is wonderful. I’ll take all I can get about what to do. My goal is to be 100% drug free and feel great all the time thru diet.

  1. Hey there DNice, (great name btw!)
Congrats to you for staring the SCD diet. I made the exact same decision as you just about 2 years ago to the day. Actually on August 14th 2009 to be exact. Anyways, my bit of advice after being on the diet or 2 years is to keep your eye on the prize, which is remission. And if your goal is to be drug free, that’s a great goal to have. But listen to your body. My recovery with the SCD diet was not a linear progression. But sometimes, it was a two steps forward, one step back, two forward, two back, three forward, two more forward, 2 back etc…

What I’m trying to say is that, if you see long term improvment, that is great. If you are like most people who follow the SCD dieting plan to treat UC, you very well may have some days when you are starting out where you are more symptomatic than others and you might wonder…WHY??? Well, that’s normal. Many people’s recovery with SCD does not go in a straight line, so don’t beat yourself up if that’s you. What you are looking for is noticable improvements over time. Best of luck to you, I know you can do it if you put your heart and dedication into being strict on the diet. -Adam
