I have seen Dr. Coates for the past 19 years for UC. He is a caring and knowledgeable doctor for all kinds of GI issues, including UC and Crohn's disease. His office maintains a medical study department and staff which shows their commitment to stay on top of the latest technologies and treatments of GI diseases and problems. The office staff works very well with the insurance industry. I highly recommend him if you are anywhere close to the Grand Rapids area. I am a long term UC patient being diagnosed at the age of 22. I did pretty well under Dr. Coates' care using mainly Asacol daily until I reached the age of 63. Because I was going downhill at that point we tried a short duration of prednisone, which had only minor success. We then tried Humira under a medical study program which was not successful for me. We switched to Remicade, but that was not successful either. At that point we both agreed that surgery was the next step. I liked the fact that he never rushed me into surgery and that is a last resort for Dr. Coates. I cannot thank him enough for this care for me over the years.
