I started site shortly after being diagnosed in October of 2008 with severe pancolitis (when my whole colon was inflamed).
For me, it was a very rough start with severe symptoms. Getting bounced from medication to medication was not easy or too helpful. But, I did meet another UC’er, changes several parts of my diet, and of course the rest is history.

Good to see your doing well Adam. Sure is a roller coaster of a disease
that keeps me on alert.
I have had UC since 1985, And still waiting for a cure.
I hope somebody comes up with a cure soon, a permanent one, so we can all get off the meds.
You should research indigo naturalis. Gave me back my life after suffering for 30 years from UC. Take care
