OK, Where Did This Come From?

Intro:

I am 40 and proudly live in Canada. I’m married to a very understanding wife and have a picture perfect girl and boy. I started running races again after a long time off and have really surprised myself. I guess you could consider me really lucky. Accept for my Colitis.

UC Symptoms:

Bloody, tarry stool 15 times a day.

My Story:

I was assigned UC in 2003. I started a long battle to back up from my grade 9 weight with the “help” of predisone, salofaulk and then imuran.  I can’t tell you how many times I had to find a toilet where there wasn’t one. How many times my wife has had to sit at a table alone at a restaurant waiting for me. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to put my daughter over my shoulder and race through a mall looking for a washroom. Mind you I tell you now; the reason why my daughter before she was 3 years old new all of her colours, shapes, numbers and letters because all the times i had to bring her into a stall with me. I would turn around , sit down and then have her look around ( carefully) for those letters, colours, etc. Eventually I got through it although it never seemed to completely go away. One day I realized I was feeling good all over again.  No need to bring my nap sack (with 2 pairs of underwear) every where I go. I was going only 3 times first thing in the morning and that’s it. I was running and racing 10km or more daily ( and not for the toilet).  I was medication free for over two years and raced in my first half marathon and place 12th. And than April 24th 2012 came and was right back where I started with the bloody\tarry stools and going 25 times a day. I am so mad and really down in the dumps now I’ve had to take time off work again and have stopped running all together. I am now on a new med called Mesalamine and today was the fist day I actually felt OK. Wish me luck.
God speed.

Where I’d Like to be in 1 year:
