New Gut Reactions Information for those with Colitis

Hey What’s You Guys,

A huge big thanks to Nick from Western Australia.

Nick is a follower of the site and newsletter group and he shared an email with me that has two separate links to an very well put together documentary that in many ways is related to our disease – ulcerative colitis and much of what we discuss on this site.  Of course if you are believer in the idea that diet plays a big part in our symptoms, this is going to make you feel even better.

But at the same time, if you are unsure of how diet may/may not play a role in UC, or if you want to simply learn more about some current research that is taking place, I’d highly recommend you watch the two videos that are on the links listed below.  And who doesn’t like listening to Australians talking about their poop, inflammation, in that Aussie accent etc…:)

Here’s Nick’s email with the links he sent:

Hi Adam,

i am am member of your mailing list and a fellow UC sufferer. I just wanted to send you a link to TV show that just aired here in Australia called Catalyst. It is a science show produced by the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission). They recently did a 2 part series on Gut Bacteria and how it affects our health. They talked about it’s effect on diseases such as Asthma, Autism, MS and of course Ulcerative Colitis (mainly in the 2nd part).

I thought this show might be beneficial to your readers and you may want to share it with them. I found it very encouraging as it showed how our diet can effect the symptoms we have and also that there are potential new treatments including Fecal transplants and other medications that are in the pipeline (excuse the pun).

Here are the links to both episodes for you.

Part 1 –
Part 2 –

I hope you and your readers find it beneficial and encouraging too.

Big thanks again Nick, the info above is very much appreciated and best to you and your family,

Adam and Nick – awesome stuff guys! Thank you so much for sharing. I’m kinda stoked about this data. I’m going to pass this on especially to the healthcare community and my GI doc.

    Knowledge is power.

FG, good luck, I wonder if your doc has seen this already or if this science will be all knew to him/her.

What an information. Really worth watching, gives lots of belief in diet.

Hello from a fan of your site and FB page.

Thanks so much for this Adam. You really are a pillar of our UC community! You put in so much work and a great guy like yourself deserves a bit of support, so when I can afford it (I’m pretty broke at the moment) I will buy your ebook. I’m hoping to start the SCD diet soon but it seems really restrictive. I think that diet is the way to go for me and a little guidance from someone who’s been through it would be invaluable on my journey.

Anyway, keep up the good work dude! Please give yourself a pat on the back from me :D

All the best from a Brit in Canada,

Thank you so much Adam for sharing this and giving so much to the UC community.

The video was informative and gives me hope. I just spent 20 days in the hospital clinging on to my colon. My Dr. is sending me to Mayo but he really thinks there is no hope to save it. At 4:30 am this morning I woke up with a plan to try to get through the fall intact and if need be – do the surgery in the winter. I have already started on the SCD and the probiotics (I told my doctor but he really does not think it will work but is willing to support me to try everything). These videos and the website give me the support I need to move forward with my plan… meds, SDC, probiotics, exercise, and a mental/ spiritual daily practice (I am a Mental Health Therapist- so I know how important this is).

Again thank you Adam and all who post here!!!

      What up JoAnne,

Always great to hear from you and super cool to hear that your GI is open to you and your treatment goals/ideas. It’s not always like that, so a big pat on the back to your GI for being open minded to some degree. Maybe pass this info to your doctor too. Best of luck to you and please keep us posted on how things go for you this winter.

This program was pretty awesome. Thank you to Nick for sharing it.

Fiber, huh? I hope it’s that easy.

I know in my heart, it is all about gut bacteria. This begs the question…why take meds that try to attack UC from a completely wrong angle??!

It all has to start with diet and/or probiotics and the avoidance of unnecessary antibiotic use.

This is all such wonderful news.

Yeah Bev, its pretty sweet to see more and more of this type of thinking as the years roll on. And finally (in my opinion) some pretty cool video work on the topic instead of the all too typical boring(ish) hardcore science side to this. Either way….we’ll take it right:)

      • Bev September 14, 2014 at 9:16 am #

You said a mouthful Adam…we already knew a lot of this…finally the medical community is figuring things out as well.

Those nasty meds just are not the answer and now, they know it!!

    Wow Adam,
The video reinforces what I think we all know, but dont put into practice on a consistent basis.
    We are what we eat!
The video was very inspirationa,l as well realizing that the food changes can
    make almost an immediate difference.
Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
WHat probiotic is The one for us?

    • Bev September 14, 2014 at 9:18 am #

Hey Paulette…you can certainly try ULTIMATE FLORA CRITICAL CARE by RENEWLIFE…that’s the probiotic that has worked for me.

Always on a completely empty stomach and then no eating or drinking anything OTHER than water for at least a half an hour afterward.

      • Paulette September 14, 2014 at 9:30 am #

        Thanks Bev
I think that would work great as thats the
regimen I follow anyway with my acid reflux pill. I coud take both together at the start of ths day.

Great video links. Enjoyed watching them, actually gave the feeling of self control and self management of our own health…which is what it should be right!

Reminds me of the Briggs protocol for UC management :-)
