Irish Ulcerative Colitis Sufferer

My name is Ger and I’m from Kerry in Ireland.  I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis almost 2 years ago. I started having great urgency and lots of blood. my gp claimed it was hemorrhoids and treated me as such. after repeated visits he finally referred me to the hospital clinic where eventually i had a colonoscopy. i was told i had uc, take steroids and asacol and consider myself lucky I don’t have Crohn’s.
i also was anemic and had to go on iron for a few months. i hate the prednosone it makes me tired and sometimes affects my mood on larger doses. the asacol worked in that it stopped bad diarrhea. after 2 months of pred i am clear but within a few weeks blood appears again and gradually over the following months increases as does frequency.
i have been to various quacks who tell me try various supplements to no avail. i am on a low gluten diet and i avoid dairy. i take vitamins, fish oils and probiotics. at the moment i am almost finished another cycle of pred and fearful of future as i get abdominal pain regularly.
i have heard of a probiotic called kefir. it comes in milk and is supposed to be amazing anyone have experience with this? i am going to get some today in a polish shop over here, it is huge in eastern Europe. i will let you know how i get on.

Medications: Prednisone and Asacol
