Hi Everybody!
I know I’ve been MIA for some time now, sorry!
I’ve just been rolling with the punches. Last hospitalized in Feb 2012…tried a bunch of drugs (what’s left that I haven’t tried already!) and STILL flaring like crazy. I cannot remember the last time I wasn’t in a colitis flare! Â I am now gluten free…I did notice a slight improvement with my arthritis, rashes, hives, and finger ulcerations…but just these past few days i have noticed they’re coming back…and strong! Â I’m assuming it has to do with the weather here in Michigan. Was 65 two days ago and today, 32 with snow!
Anyhow, along with the usual symptoms, I’ve had red bloodshot eyes that itch and hurt like crazy! I don’t know if its my UC but it began at the same time as my all around inflammation did a few days ago. Today is the worse yet. I’m going to press on and pray I don’t end up hospitalized again. I’ll just take it easy the next week or so and try to relax as much as possible. That seems to help sometimes.
Anyone else experience eye pain / redness / itching?? Weird.
But nothing ceases to amaze me with my health symptoms longer!
-Angie

Hi there! My name is Angie. I am 34, happily married and have 3 young children. I suffer from severe UC and have many “extraintestinal manifestations” related to my IBD.
Hi Angie,
Eye problems can definitely crop up when one has UC. You should really get it checked out.
Cheers,
Bev:)
Hey Angie,
I had Iritis/uveitis last Spring…I thought it was conjunctivitis at first, but I had pain and extreme sensitivity to light, etc. Not itchy though. Bev is correct, it needs to be monitored and probably treated by usually an eye doctor…your vision could be at stake!
Good luck, Shelly
Hi, Angie. Inflammation is very common with people who have autoimmune diseases such as UC and arthritis. I’ve had problems for years but eye drops always helped but I didn’t use them often enough. A couple months ago I needed new glasses and told my eye doctor about my problem and he told me I have dry eyes and just like the skin, the eye can get flakey causing the pain and itchiness and redness. He told me to use a good eye lubricant 4 times a day, which I basically do now and they do feel much better. Hope this helps.

after being hospitalized for UC 8 years ago I came down with shingles in my left eye (a few months after iv steroids). I sure hope it’s not what you have (I wouldn’t wish that on anyone). But get it checked out soon. My eye started off very red and irritated. Felt like there was something in it. I was first diagnosed with red eye but then ended up in E/R and diagnosed with shingles. Get it checked out soon to rule out anything serious.
