I was originally assigned a PA in gastroenterology (who was wonderful – very helpful) but after performing my colonoscopy and reviewing my case, Dr. Rathgaber decided to take over my case because of inconsistencies in my medical record from my last gastroenterologist. Dr. Rathgaber has a great bedside manner and has been extremely thorough in reviewing my case. Further, he really takes the PERSON into account as far as lifestyle and history regarding diet, etc.. When test-results are returned from the lab, Dr. Rathgaber actually CALLS me on the phone rather than having a nurse do it, even though he also sends a letter through the mail (I had no idea anyone did that any more!). He encourages questions and is extremely accessible – even having internet messaging available which he returns usually within 24 hours. I love the Gundersen Lutheran healthcare system, and Dr. Rathgaber really epitomizes everything that I like about it. He has really provided me with hope regarding my prognosis and I feel much more confident in knowing that I’m heard and that I can communicate openly with him about my disease! A+ in all categories!
