Comments about doctor
Hi I am Uma, I am 53 years old.  I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when i was 32 years old.I live in Hyderabad India. My doctors are Dr Nageswar Reddy and Dr Rupa Banerjee.Nageswar Reddy is the founder and head of the Asian institute of gastroenterology. He is a very renowned doctor and a good one.He diagnosed my condition being ulcerative colitis in the first instance itself after a colonoscopy. This was 21 years ago.But he suggested surgery i.e colectomy and referred me to a surgeon 21 years ago but the surgeon
asked me to manage my condition.( He told me this is not cancer so you can manage your condition) and i have been doing just that.

The Asian institute of gastroenterology is huge with several gastroenterologists. Colonoscopies, endoscopies, surgeries and what not.Nageswar Reddy is a very busy busy man now.During my last visit in 2009 oct i had an appointment for 6pm in the evening but he could see me at 12am(midnight) only. But i was told that he will see all the patients waiting for him and only then will he go home. He then asked me see doctor Rupa of the same institute as she specializes only in crohns and colitis.

Dr Rupa is a good doctor too.On any given day day we have to wait for 2 hours before we see her.Its normally on a first come first served basis. She chalks out a plan for treating and discusses this with us.I think it is usually like his. First mesacol (asacol) ,if that does not work,Mesacol and prednisone,if that fails then azoran(imuran),if that fails then remicade, and the last option is of course surgery. This is my opinion i.e what i gathered, may not be correct.

You will be amazed at the number of Crohn’s and Colitis patients coming to see her every day and most of them are very young in their early 20’s and teens.I generally chat with them while waiting and i found that mostly all of them had visited a foreign country before a trigger. Mostly the United States. May not be correct again but.

Most people here don’t have medical insurance. We pay ourselves. For a visit to this doctor we have to set a side a whole day.But we can go whenever we want there is no need for an appointment.Emergency cases will be attended immediately. So that’s all i have to say.Hope you guy guys got a fair picture of how things work here.

  1. As a patient i went to asian institute and found it to be very commercial.Dr Reddy always gives surgical advice to patient of crohns therebye proving his poor knowledge about crohns and very commercisl.Dr R banerjee is even worse because she is yet to know more about crohns its medication not a properly trained G I to treat crohns lacks basic knowledge.Never go to AIG hyderabad to treat crohns becos I suffered a lot being treated by such inexperinced doctor there. So for god sake never try to go AIG hyd for crohns treatment.

and ofcourse PGI is govt medical hospital so there are ques and u have to wait long and also you dont get to see him directly. First junior resident see you and then they refer to Dr. Kochhar, who is also professor in PGI itself.

the other two docs are Ajit sood and Ajay kumar.
below is the link for the crohns colitis foundation india

I’m Sarthak, I was diagonised with crohn’s 6 months back… Can you suggest me places or doctors best for the treatment of Crohn’s?
Where are you treating yourself now?

    5. RAGHURAM N

Absolutely commercial hospital. They are only interested in surgeries and it’s a big mafia of doctors who all frighten you to death . Absolutely no sympathy nor care. You are treated like a cattle . 90 % of patients are gullible villagers and poor guys shell out life earnings believing their ill advice. Dr. N.R never sees you unless you are super rich and come with huge references and pocket full of money. Avoid completely surgery. UC will never kill you. You can manage it with lifestyle changes.

  2. The doctor’s at asian always suggest surgery. In fact Dr Rupa told me that you are neither too young nor too old and so the right candidate for surgery.Of course i brushed her off.So essentially we have to manage well with what works for us. Diet is also very important. The medications are similar everywhere which i have found out after reading all the stories here.So i dont know what a good doctor can do.No one suggests diet or probiotics. So we have to do what works for us.Good luck all Hyderabad UCers.

    1. hi , i read ur comment .my mother iz also having proctitis since 10 years . she is taking mesalamine(mesacol) 3 times a day since 4 months. we have almost tried every doctor n treatment available in nepal bt till now there is no any improvement. the main problem she is facing is diet. she can’t digest even simple food. she is taking completely boiled food since 5 years but her episodes of diarrhoea and constipation are recurrent. i’ll be greatful 2 u if u could suggest me agood doctor. plz send me the address of the doctor and hospital!! my e-mail id is igtc.od@hotmail.com thank u!!!!!

  4. Uma,

Thank you for taking time and writing this note about your experience. I feel as if I spoke to you in person about my problem through this forum. I am one of those young guns travelled to US and got UC not sure what made you say that in your note :) I was diagnosed last year and unfortunately, Lialda, 6 MP gave me pancreatitis so I cant take them anymore. I take prednisone which is not a safe drug, I try not to take it unless I got bloody stool cycle (which I guess is every 4 month for me). It goes on for 1 month with lot of bowel movements and blood. Every time (every cycle it is getting worst). My doc says try remicade , I am afraid as that has huge side effects. I am 30 years old and I often think will I make to ur age?? if this continues? even if I do can I handle one more bloody cycle??? DOnt have answer for that. I decided to try ayurvedic and homeopathic medicine and see if that works. For a 2 months it did work like charm specially homeopathic medicine did show good results but not sure how and wht triggered the cycle and back to square :) I am looking forward to the peace after the storm which will last for another 3 to 4 months and I can start enjoying my life again….

    Jag

  5. Hi Jag, of course you will make it to my age and longer. Must be positive i know how it feels when you are in a flare. First do what it takes to get the flare under control and then maintain the remission with proper diet and a good probiotic. You must try probiotics. Doctors never suggest that i dont know why. You will learn what works for you and learn to manage colitis.Alcohol is big NO. Dont touch it. Try to eat stuff with less fibre so that it does not irritate the colon. Homeopathy did not work for me. I tried it too. Where do you live? Which country? I think tibetan medicine works for some.If you are in India you could try that. Good luck. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Hang on lot of research is going on. I am sure a cure is round the corner. My colitis started in1991.Things have improved so much since then that i cant believe it.When my doctor suggested surgery soon after diagnosing, i did go to the surgeon. But my uncle dissuaded me saying the longer you wait, more new treatments will emerge. So here i am. Gook luck.

    1. Thank you Uma, your words gave hope and a smile :)
You are correct when I am flared up that is worst and everything (hope, emotions, & life) just seem to go down the toilet with the poop. I came across SCD and Probotics but my Doc never mentioned it, he once or twice said eat lot of curd which did help at times. I have decided to control my UC with strict diet and see if that works, we can decide what we want to but it works or not is not in our hand :) I hope it does. Prednisone, is increasing my sugar and it was VERY high last week, my doc and I both were shocked and yesterday I read somewhere that prednisone can do that. I have my 2nd colonoscopy today, not sure what to hope for? I guess I am just going to wait for the results and show it to multiple docs to take 2 opinion. I am thinking of following the book “Breaking the Vicious cycle”, http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/home/
hope that will make little difference, also will surely try probotics, should I ask my doc about this? or is this something I can do on my own?.
BTW, I am in US and I loved when you said, longer I wait the better treatment will emerge. I really hope so, for all of us.
Thanks for your post and response!!!
      Jag

    1. I have also same problem when i back to my country i was fine then after 3 month after came start again . Is there any relationship .

  8. Hey guys,

I avoiding wheat and rice it helps a lot, problem with UC is u will not the progress or worsting without colonoscopy.
Additionally anything containing starch, sugar is also problamtic. It’s very difficult to go on this diet being an Indian but its better than shitting all the time. Keep an eye on your HB levels as it drops low and recovers slowly!!

    1. Hi Jag,
I have diagnosed with crohns from july 2013 .Initially i am on Budez cr and Pentasa for 2 months. Now my doctor changed the dose to Prednisolone. I have seen the side effects of prednisolone on internet.

I want to start the SCD diet ( even though it is tough for Indian).I have gone through the book Breaking the Vicious cycle. I need help regarding this. Please mail me at pawan2687@gmail.com

  9. Thanks for Bad Treatment!!!
We are patients of Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy science 2000, I came for my wife treatment on 22/12/2012 for hemorrhoid (piles) treatment, consult Dr.Rupa Banerjee (reason of selection: lady Dr.) After meeting a minute, she suggest Diagnosis Sigmodoscopy, CBP, T3, T4 & TSH, we spend total time on 22/12/2012 11am to 9PM, we came with reports on Monday 24/12/2012 she came 3 hours late, sorry not late it may delay, we have shown patient reports she didn’t even saw the first report Sigmodoscopy properly , she didn’t turn the pages of CBP & Thyroid profile, I could not understand why she suggest diagnosis, she was not talking properly with patient within a minute we were out form the cabin, we asked for diet suggestion, she simply sendt us to dietician. It is not a good sign of Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy hospital. It is very very neglectful treatment of Asia Institute of Gastroenterology. I think this institute fully commercial. Thanks for bad treatment.

  10. I took my relation suffering from Crohns to AIG and thanks to Dr Rupa’s treatment, he has recovered with no symptoms at present. Ofcource the Doctor mentioned that Crohns is a chronic disease and there is a possibility of recurrence. I found the Center very supportive and affordable for all.

  11. My daughter is for the past three months with vommitting what ever she eats or drinks. one doctor called it as GERD and suggested for fundupllication. Shifted to AIG, Hyderabad for second opinion. Again endoscopy, impedance ph tests, barium swallow test( after two attempts of failure for drinking barium liquid) carried out. Finally it was diagnosed as non acidic refulx with psychiatric problem. Till now no cure. She is not able to eat, drink. we are feeding her every one hour within minutes she is vomitting. She lost 10 kgs in two months. till now four endoscopies are carried out different gastroentrologist with different results. One endoscopy normal, second endoscopy at AGI, Hyd normal, Third at Kakinada hiatus hernia, fourth at again AGI, Hyd Paltuous GE junction. I am confused. She is not able to eat or drink. If any body reads kindly advise or if any gastroentrologist reads, kindly help me.

    1. Dear, yes i can understand. if you live in hyderabad then once you can meet Dr.D.Chandrasekhar Reddy @ Yashoda, somajiguda. But my suggestion for you will be either go cmc vellore, dr.joseph/dr.ramakrishna or Apollo chennai, dr.r.ravi for proper evaluation.

    1. Abhisek jee I am from Nepal my doc of Nepal referred me to aig Hyderabad u ve written the worst hos may I pls know about which hos r u talking about pls

  12. Dear Sunil,

am talking about asian institute of gastroenterology. if you want to survive by physically, mentally as well as financially pls do not go there. If you want to move from nepal for your treatment then must go to cmc vellore. going to aig will be a big risk for everyone who are suffering physically.

Now it’s up to you buddy.

  13. good alternative for gastroenterology and liver problems would be cygnus gastroenterology institute at miyapur especially if someone wants special care without much of waiting

    1. you can go @ yashoda somajiguda & meet dr. d.chandrasekhar reddy. he is a very good doctor of gastroenterology depat. he is not a money sucker like those busturds of asian inst of gastro.

  14. Hello,

My uncle is suffering from Cirrhosis.
People have suggested me that we should
consult Dr. Reddy at AIG. But reading at
the reviews i have become skeptical.
I have also found one more Gastroenterologist,
Dr.Dr. R.V. Raghavendra Rao at Sai Vani Super Speciality
    hospital.
We are looking for treatment in Delhi or Hyderabad.
If anybody could help us to decide.

    Thanks
    Saloni

    1. Hi Saloni,

You can meet Dr.D.Chandrasekhar Reddy of Yashoda, somajiguda. And if planning to visit delhi then must go to AIIMS other wise Apollo Delhi.

    2. Hi Saloni
Abhishek says right you just go to yashoda, somajiguda Dr Chandrasheker Or Delhi Apollo.

      I heard they are specialist.

  15. Dear All,

Myself Is Bittu Kundu from Siliguri, West Bengal . I had been diagnosed of Crohn’s disease of Small Intestine in 2009 at CMCH Vellore and done resection of my Small Intestine for 8 cms ( as the Video Capsule was stuck in the intestine at the time of Capsule Endoscopy test) and stricturoplasty of some areas in small intestine. After surgery Dr. B.S. Ramakrishna Sir has prescribed me Pentasa 500 mg ( Mesalizine Prolonged release tablets) for 1 year and said you will be OK and not need further medicine.

But friends from last 20 days I have been feeling of discomfort in digestion, stomach pain, flatulence ,cramping, and the condition got so worst that I need to Hospitalized myself and been on Saline water for three days without having a drop of water through mouth. After three days Dr. here in Siliguri, west Bengal advise me to be on liquid diet only and said that my Crohn’s disease is might aggravate again and I need to go to visit good gastro doctor.

Friends Plz Plz suggest me some good Gastro Doctors and institute so that I can go there and further do my check up. also plz suggest should I again visit CMCH, Vellore as Dr. BS Ramakrishna is retired .

Plz suggest on urgent basis. Your valuable suggestion can help me to save my life.

    My email id is bittukundu@yahoo.co.in

    1. Dear Bittu,

Don’t do that mistake. What you are facing past few days it’s normal thing. Do not go to Asian Inst of Gastro, Hyderabad. you must go to CMC vellore again & meet Dr. A.J.Joseph of gastro dept if presently your pocket permit. Otherwise come to kolkata & meet Dr.Sanjoy Mondal of Medical College calcutta for proper & further evaluation. If you are planning to come down @ kolkata then i can give you his contact number also.

  16. Dear Tushar, after seeing all these bull shits about that inst you still want to go there? strange. Once again i am telling you not to go there for treatment, it’s a bull shit.

still you want to go, then go directly there, you will be seen one of jr. doctor, were advised for colonoscopy & other. after that you may get to see dr.reddy by waiting there since morning upto mid night. there is no such appointment process to see dr.reddy properly.

But still i am not going to suggest any one who is already suffering to go there for double his/her suffer.

    all the best.

  17. Hi Guys,
Can any one suggest me best doctor for GI, as my gastro enterologist could not able to solve my problem,i.e whether i am suffering with colitis or chrons………………..actually i am using akt 2 tablets from the past 4 months…………………..

  18. sunny, you didn’t mention where r you from? though i do not suggest you for aig, hyderabad. It’s a bull shit inst. If planning to go out side then must go to cmc vellore with prior appoint with senior doc. check out their web site & mail all your docs to their id otherwise get an appoint & go there for proper evaluation.

  19. Please don’t go to Asian institute of gastro enterology. I have just been there once and they charged me 7,000 rupees. This is full commercial. And you won’t be seeing the big doctors as you wish to go. I feel pity for all those who go there. I have seen every one paying more than 5,000 rupees as minimum. I asked them that I wanna see nageswar reddy, but they took me to a jr.doctor; who don’t know anything. On the other hand, it is not well organised, and I am sure that people who go there for the first time will never go there at all. To sum up, you won’t get the treatment you want for the money you have paid. My best advise is to see a doctor who can talk to you atleast a minute. I have waited whole day to see a doctor. :-( :-( very bad experience of mine.

    1. hi all,

          2. Hi pujitha,

What probiotics brands are available in Hyderabad and where.i would like to use the same for my wife who faces partial obstruction of intestine every 4-5 months, then with either homeopathic medicine or sometimes drip it gets resolved.
Dr says it is abdominal adhesions and operation is no solution,

    1. buddy, this is not a technical site. we can only share our experience & suggest you to go some where get proper diagnosis, course of treatment, good doctor name etc. Better you consult with good doctor & get cured or improved. don’t waste your time to asking such technical question. Hope you will not misunderstand me.

  22. My mum is serios she is fighting with paincreatitis guys please suggest me the best treatment for this desease please i m from siliguri and now she is admitted in Neotia Getwel siliguri

  23. sunita, first get out your mom from getwel siliguri to kolkata immediately. Do contact with Dr.Sanjoy Kr. Chatterjee or Dr. Sanjoy Kr. Mondal( Prof of Internal medicine @ Medical college). Other wise you can meet Dr.Avijit Chowdhury, prof of gastro medicine @ sskm. you can meet him also in nightangle hospital, kolkata. If planning to go outside of bengal then must go to cmc vellore. It is a curable dissease, mind it.

  24. I am a foreigner and I read a lot of negative comments on AIG, what about Dr Reddy? I am a potential patient at AIG for Pre-Oral Endoscopic myotomy (poem) for Achalasia. I am worried with all these negative comments. Should I proceed or should I look for alternatives? I am insisting on Dr Reddy to perform the myotomy surgery.

What about Global hospital? Dr Revindren – the first to perform POEM in India?

  25. No mike, you should not proceed to AIG if you want to survive by health and money as well. In hyderabad you can contact Dr. d.Chandrasekhar Reddy of somajiguda, yashoda hosp. I do not have idea of Dr.Revindren.

DO NOT GO TO AIG. BE ALERT.

    1. Mine is a gastroenterology case and need a treatment called Per Oral Endoscopy Myotomy (POEM) for achalasis. AIG offer such treatment. I checked Yashoda website and there is no mention of such treatment. This treatment is pioneered by a japanese doctor, Dr H Inoue who train AIG in early 2012.

For Global Hospital, there is a doctor DR Amit Maydeo who has done POEM for achalasia cases.

Is there nothing good at AIG? How can they survive if they are good for nothing? Pls advise

  26. Buddy I can not tell you how can they survive. I felt it was my duty to aware people who needs proper treatment & i believe aig is not offering up to the mark treatment. Why you are still stick in hyderabad for treatment, in india there is AIMS Delhi, CMC Vellore also. Get out of hyd & go there, i suggest. All the best.

  27. Dr. Satyanarayana Gastroenterologist [Care Hospital] Visakhapatnam- Andhrapradesh.. The best doctor I have ever seen. He listens your prob very carefully and very specifically. The best part is he not a money minded. Also the hospital is very reasonable and well equipped. For foreign patients the cost of living in and around the city is very very low comparatively. Dr Satyanarayana, you can blindly believe and go to him. Good knowledge and strong hold on the subject. Simple personality and always energetic. I had a very very good experience with this Dr as well as with Care Hospital.

  28. Hi Guys,

I saw all above comments and giving my experience and suggestion.

I am also crohn’s patient from last 15 years. I live in Hyderabad visited so many big hospitals and wated 2 years of my time, but no use nothing happened. In some hospital after diagnose they confirmed as TB and given medicine for 1 year. After that they diagnosed and told it is chron’s both will have same symptoms so we confused.

Lastly I went to CMC Vellore now living happily with out any problems. Here you will get accurate treatment.

“This disease in not curable one just we have to take regular medicine and control.”

    Thanks

    1. Hi Ashok

Could you please share the diet plan and the medicine which you were given to treatment of Crohns’. It would be helpful for us as we can share the details with our doctors.

    3. Hi Ashok, which doctor did you see in CMC? Can you share some more details about the diagnosis and treatment of your disease? I am also in same kind of situation as you..I have been given TB meds for 9 months and during that the symptoms somewhat improved but after stopping the TB meds the symptoms came back.so now I don’t know where to go.. Presently I am seeing a senior resident doctor in AIIMS.He is doing some more tests and thinks that it may be chrons disease.. Please help me out here.. Email:Ayush.raj16@gmail.com..thanks

    4. Hi Ashok,
I hope you are in good health. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s 6 months back… I am right now consulting Dr. Rajiv Sarkar at SSKM in their IBD clinic… I took pentasa for 2 months. there after I was suggested Budez cr and azoran. but there are flare ups when the dose of budez cr is reduced to 3mg from 6mg. I was told to take low fiber diet. I just wanted to know how long u have continued with pentasa?? What are the medicines right now you are taking? Can you please tell me which doctor in CMC you consulted??

      My email id is janasarthak93@gmail.com

      Regards,
      Sarthak

  29. Hello Ashok,
This is Sunny from Hyderabad, actually my case is similar to yours, because initially i was suffering with tb after 1 year they told me that my tuberculosis got cured but my stomach pain is still continuing then they confirmed that i am suffering with crohns disease .so can u tell me the prescription you are following and from how long you are taking medicine………….

    Thanks in advance………………………..

    1. Hi @sunny @Irshad,

From last 14 years I am taking medicine. 12 years I have taken Mesacol 500mg . Intially daily 8 tablets per day after that decreased dose to 6 per day. After that changed medicine to Pentasa 500mg daily 6 from last two years.

If come to diet, initially they said no restrictions and have to take more of proteins food. Now also I am continuing same. No restrictions. Some of heat items will effect for healthy people but I am not getting any problem.

      Ashok

      1. Hello Sunny,

  30. I have been there for my mother. She went there for treatment of tumor in gallbladder. Once she started visiting this hospital, her condition became worse. Just with in two weeks she became very sick and finally I lost my mother. They sent her to ICU, but never said much about her condition to us. We could only talk to the so called doctors( actually they are technicians) for about 2 minutes in the morning and evening. Only one person could visit her personally for few minutes. Also, the doctors who speak with us are junior doctors who are reckless in answering our questions and just seem to be proud to be doctors and show off their pride in it. They dont have also knowledge about medical science so they preferred spiritual talk to the patient party. They never seemed to be caring about the patients they are treating and doesn’t look to have much experience either. Also, the doctors who speak with us keep changing. We didn’t understand who was treating my mother exactly. I am sure it was not those who spoke with us. The hospital seems to be seriously into business to make huge profits and not at all interested in saving lives .That hospital is like a death cell and I would recommend not to even step into that hospital ever if you want to live.

  31. Hey guys,

Has anyone (UC’ers) have tried FMT in India?? I read about this in various forums and also saw few youtube videos. Looks like a good option, I contacted a Delhi based doctor as he on his website claimed he has done FMT before, I called him on his cell, he did answer and asked to me email and he promised he will reply. Of course he is from delhi so no reply :) But lot of people have done FMT at home and got well, I am thinking of doing it my self, as none of the drugs are working for me and I am having flare up since march this year and I am on prednisone from May, all the side effects are already showing up. I am also trying the Dr. Hardik Sharma Delhi based ayurvedic Compound I and II, not sure if anyone has tried that??? I got a months supply from them so far nothing is showing good signs but I am hoping like a blind man that some day I will get vision (not sure how).
If anyone has tried FMT and if has worked, please share your experience.

    Jag

    1. Hi Jag,

      Hope you are feeling well!!
Have you got the FMT done? Please let me know if this is a cure for crohn’s or again the so called “remission”

      Thanks in Advance

  44. Hello guys,

Does anyone know/have experience of Colorectal Surgery or Surgery for UC? I am out of options, I have UC and asked to get my colon out. Please spare me the suggestions of not going for it, because trust me I have suffered non stop for 2 years with pain, bleeding, weight loss, side effects of prednisone etc. I avoided surgery from past 3 years, but I have no options as no maintenance drugs were helpful for my complicated case. WHat I want to know is for real fact from guys who have done this kind of surgery, how bad or good the whole process is, what is the cost a ball part, after effect, time to get back to have normal life IF THERE IS ANY :) I just wish if this all could end soon, cant take it anymore!!!!
Have a beautiful family, lost my job, life, everything, been 2 years sitting at home waiting to get better, but as if better is out of this world for me. Anyway please take some time and write about your experience about the surgery. DOnt write about hospitals and doctors as that is administrative part, I know eventually it will matter but as of now I have to prepare my mind for the F* surgery.

    Thanks a ton!!
Hope god heals all those who suffer and include me in that list :)

  49. Hello there, I am looking for a good hospital with exceptional international patient service for my mom. She is suffering from diffuse gastritis and needs to remove papilloma from her esophagus. She got done Biopsy in China somehow its not healing over 3 months. We are so worried if it turned out to be cancer. So looking for a good doctor who can appropriately treat her. I tried to contact with CMC Vellore or AIIMS and Apollo in Chennai and AIG. Only AIG contacted me back and I am applying for medical visa with their invitation letter and planning to visit next week. After reading all these comment I started to confuse if I did a correct decision to send my mom there. Do you know any good doctor in Apollo Chennai or Apollo Hyderbad? seems like Apollo has pretty good service for international patients such as picking them up from the airport and assist them for whatever they need and that’s probably the only option left for me if i needed to change my decision within this 7 day time frame. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so mcuh

  50. Dear Hally,

If you want to survive do not go to aig. My mother was suffering from the same & operated duodenostomy followed by gastrojejunostomy & survived. That was in kolkata by Dr. Kishore k Chowdhury of Ramakrishna Mision Seva Pratisthan, kolkata. He is also attached with Microlap Nursing home, kolkata. I strongly recomend Dr. Kishore K Chowdhury if operation needed. Otherwise go to cmc vellore without hesitation. Apollo hyd is also money sucker. Now it is up to you buddy. Good luck.

  51. thank you so much for your advice. I looked up the doctor u suggested. And my concern is how international people would contact them? there was not much information on both cmc vellore and the other hospital that you suggested and if know the way please let me know. my parents both never been to India and also have very lil english. so I need to contact them first to verify if there is people to help to puck them up from airport drop them at their hotel and help for all the admission etc.. please advice me. thank you so much again

Firstly take a deep breath & give a break to yourself. Consult Dr. Sidhartha Sankar Ray, Clinical Heamatologist, Medical College, kolkata. He is attached with RSV Hospital, Tollygunj phari also. First meet him with all your up to date reports & follow his advice. Then you should contact Dr. Manoj Agarwal, Clinical Gastroenterologist, Belleview & Kothari hospital, kolkata. Otherwise straight meet with Dr. Sanjoy kr. Chatterjee, Prof of internal medicine, medical college, though he has his chamber near to north city college also.

Do not confuse. try to meet them accordingly, if no result comes then go to cmc vellore. Take 7 – 10 days to meet them before going to vellore.

      Good luck.

  59. Hi..i am sharique from patna. from last 3 years my mother is suffering from blood loss in stool in mixed way ( occult blood) .Due to this her heamoglobin comes down and she feels extreme weakness.we visited many private doctors in bihar & also aiims delhi & medanta guragaon.Done with all tests like endoscopy, colonoscopy & capsule test.but nothing has been diagnosed.what should i do.
i m really very much worried.
    please guide me.

  60. Hello Sharique

Sorry to hear that your mother is undergoing so much of pain and trouble.
I am an Crohn’s patient and I have been undergone all the symptoms which you’ve mentioned above.

I would suggest you to take care of the eating habits and diets which you and your family are on. We all feel that taking medicines will improve our conditions but in gastro problems such as Crohns, UC or Ulcers, I would say that food plays a major role.

While your mother is unable to digest any food she’ll definitely fell weak.Below I’m mentioning few foods which will definitely help her to re-gain health:

Tip1: STOP taking milk and milk products.

Tip2: Avoid ROUGHAGE in foods such as salad, raw vegetables and it will hurt the gut while passing through it.

Tip3: Avoid oil and greasy substance in food such as oil, butter, ghee etc (difficult to digest)

Tip4: Carbohydrates and sugar also create trouble while digestion so avoid Sugar, rice, Potatoes etc.

Tip5: Eat boiled fish as its a great source of Protien and easy to digest. avoid mutton (red meat).

Tip 6: Eat banana after every meal as banana contains magnesium which acts as Natural antacid.

Tip7: Take probiotics with the medicines as probiotics contains good Bacteria which helps in digestion and reduces burden on your gut hence helps in healing.

Tip8: Always be hydrated, drink as much of water you can.

Tip9: AVOID cold drinks, coffee, tea and chocolates as these are not at all good for the gut.

Note : These all changes in diet have been implemented by me and I have seen the improvement.
Most important of ALL you should not panic, rather be calm and think what can be done next.

    Thanks!
    John

  61. Thnx a lot John..
i will take care of the diet.

But she has not been diagnosed with any disease..neither crohns, clitosis, UC OR Ulcer.
Firstly, I want the disease to be diagnosed.
Which doctor or hospital should I visit.
My mother already been consulted to aiims delhi and medanta gurgaon.
The mendanta doctors prescribed a medicine called “omnacortil”.this medicine was being useful to the disease but due to this medicine my mom got cataract.so
Doctor changed this omnacortil with other medicine which is not being useful & she lossing blood in stool heamoglobin is down again.
Please tell me the best gastroenterology doctor or hospital.

    Thanx

    1. Sharique,

You should try Dr. Nageshwar Reddy at AIG hospital Hyderabad. It is difficult to get an appointment with him, he is chairman of the group, a fine doctor. I am sure you will find lot of good doctors suggested by many people all over India. I am suggesting this doctor and hospital because this is a Gastro related hospital and all the variety of test can be done here at one place, also number of good doctors are available to review your case. I have suffered from similar issues but my problem was diagnosed so I was lucky enough. Take a reference letter from your local doctor for Dr. Reddy and visit this hospital. I am sure your issue will be resolved soon. Do ask your mom to take iron supplements, drink lot of water, take Vitamin supplements.
      Thx
      Jag

  62. Sharique,

Never go to aig or wish to meet dr. nageswar reddy. Believe me I’ve experienced with my mom & so many people during treatment. If you are looking for national then must visit cmc, vellore. Dr. joseph or others. At least you will get concrete answer from them for sure. Otherwise if you wish to come kolkata then let me know, i will help you to find good doctor.

    1. AIG is completely fake and too much commercial. I had a terrible experience with AIG last week. I’m a patient of UC since 2004. I recently moved to Hyderabad along with my family. So, decided to visit AIG as this is the number one in Asia according to them. But, fully disappointed. They treat the patients like toys. For them, its just another CASE. They don’t feel the pain the patient is having, both physically and mentally. They are not ready to listen and understand. Sympathy is out of the question. They tell the patients all the bullshits and they think that all will believe them. The management is worst. Even there is nobody to take your complain. It was a wrong decision for me to go there. I strongly suggest not to visit AIG and never trust any AIG doctors blindly.

  71. Hi guys,

I have been suffering from Crohn’s disease since 14 years. But diagnosed 9 years back. In the first 5 years of no diagnosis and no treatment, I kept in loosing weight,

  72. Continue,

Had mild diarrhea but no pain abdomen. After I started treatement with Balacol, I was getting pain abdomen and the pain is progressing year by year.
Pain will not come only if I am on steroid or imuran. What does it mean?

Is it the partial obstruction or the progression of Crohn’s disease? I asked many docs about this. No one has told me. I know this is not a technical site but can any one throw light on this?

Is surgery good to avoid pain? I am 30 years old.
Is there any body who is completely off the medication for years after you are put in remission.
Some times I feel very bad for the situation that I am in rt now because I am young and I don’t know how long to live like this?

    1. Thanks Abhisek for this information, but any idea about dr Kalyan Bose? He siggested me colonoscopy without any prescribed any medicine at first visit and cost of this procedure he charged is 6500/- which is very much higher than others clinic/hospital.

  75. I think you should meet Dr. Manoj Agarwal either in Kothari or Bellevue before going to do this. Or you can also try Dr. Avijit Chowdhury either in Nightingle or Sskm hospital. They r best possible option in Kolkata & also they both r not money sucker.

  76. Dr. Avijit Chowdhury not associated more with Nightingle and i already tried with new clinic which is Quadra Medical Services Pvt. Ltd, Hazra but they said not possible to get appointment before nov, I will try to visit lDr. Manoj Agarwal.

  80. It is amazing to see so many CD cases in Hyderabad. I have been suffering from for 27 long years, triggered during Masters studies in USA. Being a vegetarian, the trigger was bad food habits – microwave pizzas, cheese, no proper food or diet.

These are the doctors I have consulted so far in Hyderabad for my CD: Dr Mysore Sridhar, Pace Hospital, Dr Ravindra Nath, Sai Vani, Dr D Chandrasekhar Reddy, Yashoda, Somajiguda, Dr. Peddi Kiran Kumar, Global, Lakdi-ka-pool. (There are many more that I consulted ages ago). The first colonoscopy was conducted on me by Dr D Nageswara Reddy at Medinova in 1990 and confirmed my disease as CD. Before that I was treated for other symptoms.

As I have developed stricture, all first three doctors suggested surgery. Dr Peddi Kiran Kumar has put me on Prednisolone to see if it can reduce stricture. Hoping for the best.

There is another doctor in Vijayawada, I have not consulted, Dr Jaganmohan Rao, Nagarjuna Hospital.

  81. Hi Srinivas,

What were the symptoms you were having with stricture?

How did u manage for 27 year? Are on medications continuously. Any side effects with them

How did they diagnosed you as having stricture?

    1. Anita:

      1. Stricture diagnosis and symptoms: My stricture is of 3cm in mid-ileal loop, diagnosed using CT Enterography. I was having severe non stop, unbearable abdominal pain all over below belly button in RLQ and LLQ. Then doctor conducted CT Enterography and the stricture was noticed.

      2. I am a vegetarian, non drinker, non smoker. I had my fistula in ano in 1988, when my Crohn’s started. I was put on Mesacol 400mg (three times a day) all these years, with usual supplements. There are no side effects with Mesacol. But you can not get rid of the symptoms of Crohn’s with mesacol. You will always have to bear Crohn’s symptoms.

      3. Because of stricture, I am taking now Prednisolone on tapering basis. I am waiting to see if it reduces my stricture and severe abdominal pain.

      Srinivas

  82. Last year My Son was diagnosed for Chronic Calcified Pancreatites in a CT scan recommended by a Pediatric surgeon in CMC Vellore. One junior lady doctor (in gastroenterology OPD clinic) prescribed some medicines. She told to perform some other tests and show the tests results to a gastrologist in Kolkata and then take the medicine. After returning from Vellore, I conducted those tests and show the reports to a local gastrologist in salt lake, Kolkata, he almost changed the medications of CMC Vellore. The loads medicine is more than what prescribed in CMC Vellore. I am confused and thinking to visit AIG, Hyderabad for 2nd thought. But after reading comments in this site about AIG, Hyderabad I am in dilemma now. Can anyone suggest me the name of good senior doctor for treatment of Chronic Calcified Pancreatites in Kolkata or Chennai Apollo or AIIMS, New Delhi. I will remain obliged forever.

  83. Dear subhendu,

. Do not ever think of AIG. You should contact Dr. Manoj Agarwal of Bellevue hospital or Kothari hospital. Otherwise straight go to cmc Vellore & take prior appointment of senior gastroenterologist like Dr. Joseph or else but it should be direct appointment of senior doctor. Consulting junior is waste of valuable time.

  84. Hello everyone….seeking for your kind help….my grandmother is suffering frim oral infection all over her mouth for more then 2years. She has taken injection to cure it bt could not get rid of it. Recenty I have observed that its spreding again and she is not being able to eat anything. Can you please suggest where I can visit in kolkata for
    such problem ?

  85. Hi Srinivas,

Thanks for your information. Now a days doctors are not showing interest in mesalamine drugs.
They say it will not help much.

I am on azathioprine and they say it is life long.
Very scared about the future and side effects.

    Anita

  86. Anita:

Mesalamine is only maintenance drug, not much use. But is better to take it rather than not to have any maintenance drug.

I am also azathioprine (Azuran 30mg/day) and waiting to see if it can decrease my Crohn’s Disease.

    Srinivas

  87. Hi,

My fiancee is in USA. Chrons had been confirmed to him. Occasional micro granulomas were found in the tests. Two anal Fistulas are also confirmed. He didnot tell anyone from the past 5 years due to shy about fistulas and drainage. He became so weak.

He wants to come to hyderabad and would like to have surgery for fistula and would like to take biologics. He is hoping that he would gain weight and get better soon.

My family wants to not to proceed further for marriage. They scared that what if he wont recover and they feel it take many years to recover. What if i dont get kids as he is so weak. what if kids get the disease. What if he dies early or after having kids . What if it turns to cancer as he dint meet the doctor early etc

I am reading stuff online. Sometimes i feel ok with the disease. Sometimes i am so scared of the consequences.

I request you to share your experiences and suggest is it advisable to marry him or dropping is the good idea. Pls help me.

    Thanks

    1. I have same disease from last 18 years when I am 22 years. Now I am 35 and I am happily married and have 2 kids. till now I dont have any problem. I am happy and I can eat anything than a healthy person. Only the thing is daily I need to take tabs. thats it.

  88. Hi Suma,

Most importantly avoid to visit AIG Hyderabad. It’s a bullshit organization. And start diagnosis immediately under proper & qualified supervision. It can be CMC Vellore / Apollo Chennai or you can visit Dr. Manoj Agarwal of Kolkata also. This disease is curable if not so late. But before going to take any decision regarding your personal get a concrete final medical version.

    Good luck.

    1. Hi Abhishek.
You have mentioned lot of time Dr.Joseph from CMC Vellore. But There is no such name of doctor there. Can you write down the full name and clinic name of his. Any other gastroenterologist you suggest from CMC Vllore?

      Thanks

  89. Hi Suma,

Living with a person with Crohn’s is difficult.
If I were you I will not marry. Being a woman you should be careful. Fistula and the need for biological means it is a severe disease

Consult a gastroenterologist and take advice. But I am sure no body will tell you not to marry. Indian culture is like that.

Best treatment is available in U.S. Advice him to get the treatment there.

    1. Anita,

I doubt about medication in USA being the best. Also, it is important not to think of IBD as the end of the world; was diagnosed with UC in 2011 during my Masters in USA, returned to India, accepted it and embraced it, now getting back to normal life (very important!)

  90. Hi suma .

U must have heard of fecal transplant which is available in u.s. and not in india . People are completely cured with this treatment . Unfortunately only one doctor in india is performing this treatment .now u can imagine the criteria . I am also one crohns patient and disappointed with indian doctors . They know that it works but they dont want to perfoem the procedure ….(had they been suffering they would have started performing).but ur fiance is already in u.s. he can get himswlf treated with this.

U marry or dont marry him but u can advise him on this . Nd atleast be nice to him . Its not his fault to get the disease.

  91. Hi suma

I went thru every question that you have in your mind and I prepared for my family to deal with the issues of living with this IBD. Life is not normal, it is like slow poison. It impacts your social personal and financial life. I had to limit my kids to just 1 and I always worry weather I will be able to work till retirement and see his marriage and be with my spouse or not. It is a constant worry. It may be selfish, but look at all the issues he had and if it is just crowns and it is in early stages, then it is okay. If he is not responding to the treatment then it is difficult. What if you get married and learn that you have a cancer or other issue ? Do u expect him to leave you or stay with you ? If we start leaving the people based on health then only genetically modified humans get married. The relationship is not based on health. But if you do not know him and if u have very limited relationship with him then be friendly with him and after learning more about the health you make the decision. I know personally someone who is living with crohns and managing fine with biological stuff and she goes to office and had kids and lives just normal life. I went thru the surgery and recovering slowly and i have to change and adjust my hobbies and life style. But this is not a deadly disease. Be positive and support him. If my sister is in this position, then I will say no to this marriage, it is selfish but I am a normal person and not mother Theresa :)
