Dr Rebecca Saich was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Foundation Trust in 2006. She qualified in 1995 from Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, London with distinctions in Medicine, Pathology, Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and won prizes for clinical excellence. She became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1998 and subsequently trained as a specialist in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine in the Oxford region. She undertook a PhD at The Royal Free Hospital in London.
In addition to a broad knowledge of general gastroenterology and hepatology, Dr Saich has benefited from supra specialist training in the management of inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal failure at The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford which is an internationally renowned quaternary referral center for the treatment of these conditions.
With this expert tuition, Dr Saich has become both highly skilled and experienced offering state-of-the-art, patient centered, evidence based treatment for Crohns disease, ulcerative colitis, coeliac disease and other diseases which may cause diarrhea.
Dr Saich is also an excellent therapeutic endoscopist performing upper GI endoscopy, banding of varices, dilatations, stent insertion, ERCP, colonoscopy and polypectomy. She has a particular aptitude for colonoscopy and peer reviewed audit consistently demonstrates her completion rates (a marker of quality) well above, and her complication rate, well below national averages.
