Dr. Doug Bignell – Gastroenterologist – Sault Ste Marie, Ontario

Dr.Bignell is a very quiet man who comes off as a little disconnected from his patients at first, however in my opinion, he is an excellent doctor. He asks the right questions and doesn't waste any time. Some people take his lack of eye contact and dry personality the wrong way. It is clear that he wants to get to the point and make the patient feel better as soon as possible.

After being diagnosed with UC, he started me on medication and made me an appointment to see him 4 weeks later. When the initial medication wasn't quite getting things under control, he prescribed an additional medication and told me to call the following week if I was still having problems. He continued to see me every 4 weeks until I felt great and my UC was manageable and even now, I see him every 8 weeks just to check in. He didn't want to prescribe heavy medication like prednisone unless it was absolutely necessary, which I appreciated! It seems like a pretty serious drug and I was happy that he was willing to try some medications with less side effects first. Luckily, I still have not had to take prednisone.

Dr.Bignell has many patients but always seems to know exactly who I am he brings up any issues I may have mentioned at prior appointments to make sure they have subsided. He has a fabulous staff who are very helpful and friendly.

Personally, I am extremely happy with Dr.Bignell and would recommend him to anyone with UC.
