I got diagnosed in April'2017. I have been going to Dr. Dewar since then. I have not achieved remission yet but Dr. Dewar has been great - he started me with mild medication then Mesalamine and then to steroids when nothing worked. Steroids helped control the situation even though I am not in remission still. We are discussing move up to Azathioprine but I am reluctant towards it and Dr. Dewar has been very understanding. We will be doing another sigmoidoscopy to determine our next steps. I am still in discovery phase of what will work for me and Dr. Dewar has been helpful in providing information and pointing to research.
He is skeptical about the role of diet & probiotics as he says not enough solid research data points to conclusive benefits so I was late in bringing those changes in. However, I feel that diet changes do help me get better than I am even though not 100%. I would recommend him to others suffering with UC. He takes time to discuss and thinks through the considerations very well.
