Another Health Issue – Are You Kidding Me?

Introduction:

My name is Patti, I am 44 and was diagnosed with colitis in November 2011. This past Friday – after months of one infection and health issue after another all discovered after being diagnosed – my husband and I have been told that I have stage 2 cervical adenocarcinoma. GRRR!!
My Symptoms:
Currently, my UC symptoms have been urgent BM’s several times a day. But have reduced since November since I started taking the Apriso caps daily.I still struggle with nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain (explained a lot by the cervical cancer diagnosis), and running to the toilet to NOT go or “blow it up” as my husband tells me!I am constantly tired, and just have very little strength left by the end of my work day.

My Story:

I guess my biggest question right now is this:

Has anyone else had the same issue of one health issue after another even after diagnosis?

The cervical cancer diagnosis threw us for a loop, but the second gynecologist we saw said that the UC more than likely saved me from even worse because it tends to have immune system responses. In short – had I not been diagnosed all of the doctors I continue to see would never have believed how bad I really felt. They never would have done all of the CTs, MRIs, and ultrasounds to find out what was wrong.

So while I am grateful for that part, I am really sick and tired of being sick and tired ALL the time. It seems like they start to discuss a certain treatment option and then they find another illness that wasn’t there a year ago, but has shown up now. All of which means that they cannot do any treatments discussed and I am left with the SCD and Apriso to deal with the UC while they find ways to keep me from losing even more weight (down nearly 50 pounds since September 2011). Which is a bit of a help, but there has to be something I can do to give my immune system a boost in the meantime!

I have been poked, prodded, nuked, injected, medicated, and felt utterly humiliated by doctors in the past 9 months. If not for my husband and kids I think I would not have made it this far without losing my mind.

I am most concerned at this point about finding out if the cervical cancer treatments are going to really make the Ulcerative Colitis worse than it has been. How can I boost my immune system and help my body fight everything that keeps coming up?

Where I’d Like to be in 1 year:

In one year, I would love to be sitting on the beach with my family and be able to enjoy the scene instead of worrying that I am keeping them from the beauty seen in everyday life!
