Hello fellow UCers. I’m writing this blog post to share with you a flyer I’ve designed. It’s a simple flyer advertising this support group and community of UCers, www.ihaveuc.com Simply click on the link http://www.sarahegrant.com/ihaveuc-flyer.pdf (or the image below), print it out, cut on the dotted lines, and hang it up in your local GI clinic (make sure to get permission first).
I wanted to create this flyer and give it to you to share with others because I think this website and group of people is invaluable and I want to spread the word to other UCers. I wish I had known about it when I was first diagnosed with UC two years ago. Currently (and thankfully) I’m in remission, and was even in remission when I discovered this website. I stumbled upon it when I was looking for an alternative to all of my meds and was doing research for the first time on this disease that I was diagnosed with a year and a half before. I couldn’t believe the stories, the response to my first blog post, Adam’s dedication, and the fact that there were other people with the same disease as me! I had never even considered this (crazy, I know)! I had felt so alone for a year and a half and finally, some support. Obviously, I knew people had Ulcerative Colitis but I thought, how in the world would I ever get in touch with them? I thought UC was one of those rare diseases because I had never heard of it before I was diagnosed. Therefore, I never even thought a support group like this even existed. It made me feel so happy when I discovered it and found out that there were others just like me. Finally: some answers to my questions, a smile on my face when I read “where’s the toilet?” on the I Have UC logo, and most importantly, empathy instead of sympathy. Finally, others who know exactly how I feel. Exactly how I feel on bad days and even good days.
Please help others with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease who don’t know we’re here for them. All you have to do is print this flyer and hang it up in your doctor’s office.
