Dr. Olson is a nationally renowned colorectal surgeon. He performed my proctocolectomy with j-pouch ileoanal anastomosis – in other words, he removed my entire large intestine and created my new internal j-pouch, temporary loop ileostomy, and just recently performed my ileostomy takedown surgery making me GI tract all small intestine and all internal. He performed it laproscopically so there is minimal scarring and he did a FANTASTIC job. I was the first person at Parkland (the community/city hospital in Dallas, TX that deals with high volumes of patients and is part of the UT Southwestern Medical School teaching hospital) to have that procedure performed laproscopically. He is very smart and knowledgeable about any questions you may ask him. He’s patient, methodical, and a perfectionist – a perfect combination when requiring such a major surgery to be performed. I was on the operating table for 10 hours because he wanted to make sure t he connection where he connected my new formed pouch made of small intestine to the tiny amount of rectum I had left was solid and stable. I have had no problems with my pouch and would recommend him to everyone.
