Colitis Joint Pain

I have had this condition of ulcerative colitis for 10 years now. It has put me in hospital twice. Sometimes I take medication, but at the moment I am having quite a lot of joint pain in my arms mainly elbow joints.  I would like to know if other sufferers of colitis have this same type of joint pain problem?

Information about Joint Pain:

Joint pain can be very distracting and even painful at times.  It is something that can happen in one or more joints all over the body.  This type of pain can happen anytime during the day.  For some people with joint pain it occurs at specific times of day such as in the morning or at night while sleeping.  For other people, the joint pains can happen throughout the day at very random times.  There are several causes of joint pain, and one that is listed by the National Institute of Health is autoimmune disease.  Ulcerative Colitis is considered an autoimmune disease so this might be part of the connection as to why so many people with colitis complain of having joint pains at different points in time.

With regards to joint pain and ulcerative colitis, many people with UC have felt that the joint pain has become more bothersome to quality of life than the “traditional” UC symptoms at times.  With the help of everyone sharing their stories on joint pain and how it affects life, hopefully we can all come up with ideas on how the joint pain can be fixed or made easier to deal with along with UC.  What is most puzzling to some people is how the joint pain can exist even when colitis symptoms are in remission.
