I’m a 25 year old college student, and I have just been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis about a week ago.
It has been very frustrating and depressing. I’ve lost about 15 pounds and counting. I play university basketball and am now unable to play or exercise the way I usually do. I’ve also missed a week and a half of classes now and exams are just around the corner.
I really don’t know what to do about this, it scares me and feels like it’s not going away.
Is there anyone with UC that is able to eventually continue at a high level of athletics? Or is this a part of my life that I need to accept that is over?
I’m on prednisone now and it seems to keep my frequent bathroom visits down during the day, however I am constantly up through the night into the early morning until I take the drug again the next day. My social life has completely disappeared within one week, and I feel generally sick most days.
Any tips and help would be appreciated.
